Me (in a nutshell)

photo by Diana ElliottI recently moved to Berkeley, after spending 10 years in New York City. Before that, I lived in Virginia, where I also went to school (the University of Virginia). Although I graduated with a BA in International Relations and received a commission in the United States Army Reserve, neither field ultimately held much interest for me, perhaps because I really yearned to do something more creative.

So I moved to NYC to become an actor, and worked on and off (as actors do) in Off-Broaday, regional and touring theatre, and became a member of the Actor's Equity Association. I also did a lot of musicals, and got to play Jesus twice! And I never even got ONE call from Mel Gibson's people :) I even wrote and performed a one-man play about John Wilkes Booth, The Most Famous Man in America, which led to a stint portraying Booth on TV on a PBS series, History Detectives. Since then, I've mostly put acting on the backburner, but still enjoy writing. I am researching and working on a novel for young adults.

I've always enjoyed working with computers, since using Apple IIe's in elementary school, and learning BASIC on my own TRS-80 Color Computer (but I'm dating myself...) Although I could've pursued a career in programming, I've gravitated more towards design and the creative aspects of computing. In addition to the print and web work shown in my gallery, I've developed a desire to edit digital video and create special effects and animation. My next project is to get some of my film clips online.

What else? I was born in Berlin, Germany, before the Wall came down. Although, my parents worked for the US government, I can proudly claim, "Ich bin Berliner!" I spent most of my life moving back and forth between Germany and the States, and also lived in Frankfurt, Munich and Bonn, where I graduated from high school. Unfortunately, as I was constantly surrounded by American culture and media, mein Deutsch ist nicht sehr gut.
